Running To Burn Fat

There has been much discussion about whether one should incorporate running to burn fat. With running as one of the world’s most popular sporting workouts, is it possible to make it more than just a hobby…can you refine it to lose weight?

To effectively lose weight, it is necessary to incorporate proper dieting and exercise. Since running is one of the easiest sports to pick up, it might just be the best form of exercise. Often though, people stop running almost as fast as they start. This can be for a number of reasons, but most of the time, it is because the person doesn’t think it is working.

Before I mention a few of the reasons why you should run to burn fat, let’s briefly discuss some running facts. First fact is, it will take your body a good six weeks to get acclimated to running. And because you may not have been exercising at all, your body will be more sore. Remember, burring off fat requires your body to do more than it is used to…increasing your metabolism. This can only occur when you begin running consistently, which again, may take time.

Okay, let’s now take a look at a few reasons why running will help you burn fat.

  1. It is the easiest sport, as it does not require equipment, a health center, club, or much instruction to get going.
  2. The intensiveness of the sport will have you burning more fat in no time
  3. Unlike strength training alone, running forces your entire body to react to every stride you take. Balance is one of the most important pieces of successful running, and your body works overtime trying to maintain your balance, in effect, burning fat.
  4. A properly defined running program will provide you a workout schedule, giving you the ability to increase the intensiveness of your weekly workouts. Many who start running and say they plateau. What happens is that your body requires something different, a different routine, or running workouts. You would hit this so-called plateau regardless of the exercise component you selected.
  5. Running allows you to do the activity anywhere. You are not forced to a health club to do your workout, you can change venues as often as you would like.

Pending your present condition, it may take some time to realize the results of running, but stick with it. I always refer to it as getting over the hump. Once you can be consistent over the first six weeks, you will be well on your way to making running a key component in bettering your health and burning fat.
