Since my humbling beginnings of training and running marathons over a decade ago, I have come to value what running has done for me physically, mentally, and personally. This Fall, on October 10th, I will be running the Chicago Marathon to promote “Girls on the Run”. I thought rather than just running for a personal goal , I would run for a charity that I am passionate about.
Having a teenage daughter myself, I know first hand what peer pressures girls face everyday, and the importance of empowering girls at an early age can prevent at-risk activities in the future that include substance/alcohol use, eating disorders, sedentary lifestyle, depression and suicide.
Girls on the Run is a life-changing, experiential, learning program for girls age eight to thirteen. The programs combine training for a 5k running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive, emotional, social mental, spiritual and physical development.
Please support my participation in the Chicago Marathon benefiting “Girls on the Run”. Your donation will go to a great cause, and is tax deductible. I have made a commitment to raise at least $1,000 and I need your help to get there! Please help as you can, it all adds up!
